Lakkhichhara is a Kolkata based Bangla Rock band which had it’s inception in the year 1995, under the guidance of Late Gautam Chatterjee. They released their first song “Porasonay Jalanjali” which was composed by Late Gautam Chatterjee, as a part of the “Moheener Ghoraguli Sampadito ” album “Abar Bochhor Kuri Porey” in the same year .
They were the youngest band in the city at that point with the average age of the band being 13. The rest of the 90’s saw them release “E ki kotha suni haye” in the Moheen Sampadito album Maya in 1997.
They released their first full length album “Meghamallar” in 2001, the album got them major underground popularity . With a loyal brigade of followers attending their shows regularly. In 2003 they broke into the Mainstream market with their album “Jibon Chaichhe Aro Beshi” . The title track topped all the charts and Lakkhichhara became a name that the mass became familiar with not only in Bengal but in every part of country where there was a follower of Bangla Band Music. 2005 saw them Release their third studio album “Eka”. Songs like “Ke ki bole” and “Palie Berai” from that album became anthems for the youth. Both these songs had music videos which got regular airplay in the local Music Channels while Ke ki bole went on to be the first regional song to get airplay in Channel V Asia. These two songs were later released in a compilation called Dabanol in Bangladesh.
During then the band also also a part of a very popular Television game show called “chokka noile Fokka” where Lakkhichhara was the featured band in each episode, playing their originals on national television every week.
The band also became judges and Mentors in the Popular band hunts like Band e Mataram and KBL war of the Rock stars etc.
The band had also composed the Theme song for the “Royal Bengal Tigers” which was a cricket team owned by Mithun Chakraborty representing Bengal in the Indian Cricket League(ICL).
In 2009 the band released it’s 4th studio album “Bishesh Bishesh Angsho Birotir por” which was a concept album and was a Progressive Rock album. The album was released by Mithun Chakravarti in the Popular Television show “Dance Bangla Dance”. The album didn’t really work for the mainstream audience but ended up gaining a very strong underground popularity with fans requesting songs from the album even today.
The band also played some national festivals like NH 7, MTV Stunt Mania Rockathon and Palm Show in Mumbai.
Lakkhichhara released their 5th Studio album ” Kemon Achho Shohor” which had new compositions apart from some of their songs from their first two albums which the band rearranged and recorded again. The new versions of these songs got great response and the title track of the album got a lot of popularity as well.
From 2012 to 2015 the band struggled with regular line up changes having performed in prestigious concerts like Kolkata For Nepal, Gaan Bangla’s Rockin Bangladesh Season 2, The Festival etc with different line ups. In 2016 the finally got a Stable line up again.
The current line up has composed music for different brands including three theme Songs for Asian Paints Sharad Samman which gained a lot of popularity, They have released singles Like “Kadajawle” and “Bhrom” in 2020, they have performed in Numerous concerts and festivals including NH7 in 2018.
The band in currently working on a new EP which will be released soon and have started composing music for films as well.
The Current line up of the band includes Rajiv Mitra, Gaurab Chatterjee, Debaditya Chaudhury, Sanket Bhattacharya, Bodhisattwa Ghosh, John Paul and Anirban Bob Mazumder.
Lakkhichhara will be completing its 27th year in 2022 having been a huge part of the Music Scene of Bengal, their music has been a part of so many people’s lives and memories. Yet it seems like the journey has just begun.
